Forty-two years after the start of the famous power outage of 1977, electricity was cut off in New York.
The famous power outage of 1977 has damaged more than a thousand stores during looting and riots.
The New York Police Department arrested more than 3,700 people – the largest mass arrest in the city's history.
Here are some scenes of the current breakdown:

Well it's something. Apparently, there is a power outage in downtown Manhattan. MSNBC is back on the air thanks to a backup generator, but 30 Rock is largely dark. I started to feel as if I were in a post-apocalyptic film as I was walking outward. (The lampposts are all outside too) pic.twitter.com/WjOHp4Yp9D

The electricity was cut off during several of our emissions, fortunately, a backup generator came into service. But a good part of Manhattan is without electricity. pic.twitter.com/ATKTUSb5w4
