Power outages send Manhattan neighborhoods in the dark

Power outages were reported in Times Square, the Upper West Side and parts of downtown early Saturday night, throwing train stations, movie theaters and department stores into the dark.

The MTA confirmed that the power was off in 59th Street – Columbus Circle subway station shortly after 6:45 pm.

"There is a power failure at the subway station on the 59th, does anyone else have this problem? #MTA, "tweeted Elizabeth Brennan, user, with a photo.

Straphangers said the 7th Avenue station was also very dark.

The Twitter user @SouthPawSweet posted a photo of Times Square showing the lights that usually covered the World Square Crossroads had gone out.
