The Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s lottery draw climbed to around $ 640 million with a cash option of $ 478.7 million – potentially making it the eighth largest in US lottery history.

The Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won since September 16, when someone who bought a ticket at Ballston Spa, New York, took home the top prize of $ 94.6 million. Since then, 34 draws have been made without a jackpot winner.

If anyone wins the jackpot on Saturday night, it will be the fifth biggest Powerball prize.

While no one hit Wednesday’s $ 556.7 million jackpot, 11 second-prize tickets worth at least $ 1 million each were sold across the country.

In New Jersey, five third prize tickets were purchased, each corresponding to four numbers plus Powerball. One – sold at Krauszer on Amwell Road in Hillsborough – was purchased with the Power Play option for an additional $ 1 and is worth $ 100,000. The other four are valued at $ 50,000 each.

The winning numbers for Wednesday were: 4, 19, 23, 25 and 49. The Power Ball shot was 14 with a Power Play of 2X.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $ 2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance of matching five numbers and winning at least $ 1 million, while that the odds are 913,129 to 1 of winning third prize of at least $ 50,000.

Powerball is played Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, Washington DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

The New Jersey Lottery office in Lawrence is open by appointment only. You can still claim your winnings – provided they’re less than $ 599.50 – in person at any retailer.

The lottery also accepts mailed claims, although officials warn payments could be temporarily delayed. Winners are encouraged to make copies of the claim form and the winning ticket for their records.
