Practical look at all the new features of iOS 13

Apple unveiled yesterday iOS 13, the latest version of the operating system designed to work on the iPhone (and the iPad, although the iPad the version has been renamed iPadOS). iOS 13 is an update that introduces a long list of new features and rather exciting changes.

First of all, iOS 13, like iOS 12, is an update bringing essential improvements in terms of performance under the hood. Apple has reduced the size of application downloads by up to 50%, which has improved application update times. Applications launch twice as fast. On devices that use face recognition, unlocking with face recognition is 30% faster than before.

iOS 13 looks a lot like iOS 12 Regarding the design, with the exception of a new dark mode covering the entire system, including applications, dark. Dark mode can be turned on or off at will.

Many applications have been updated, but Photos is the application that has undergone the most important redesign. A new main view organizes and manages your photo library to show you a selection of highlights by day, month, or year. This is a convenient way to get back on your favorite memories, and you will notice that the videos in this view are read automatically.

The Photo Editing Interface has been revised to make it easy to quickly adjust your images. New portrait lighting settings that can move light in and out, depending on the purpose.

The volume of the HUD has been revised and the new indicator of increase / decrease in volume is less annoying, located on the side of the iPhone or on the top, depending on the orientation of your apparatus.

Now, iOS 13 is limited to developers, and Apple is warning those who do not take risks to wait for the public beta, scheduled for July, before installing the update. It is indeed full of bugs at the moment and does not offer the best experience of use. It is best to install it on a secondary device.

A new Find My app combines the Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps. It has one of the best new features announced by Apple: an option to track your devices even when they are offline using other nearby iOS devices.

A new connection feature with Apple is also a major change in privacy protection, providing a convenient way to connect to apps and websites. Your Apple ID authenticates your account with a touch ID or face ID, and apps can even generate random, one-time email addresses so developers and businesses never receive your real information.

The Maps application provides more extensive road coverage, updated pedestrian data and more detailed ground coverage, but the most interesting new feature of Maps is Look Around, which is essentially Apple's version of the Street View of Google.

Apple has made the application of reminders more useful in iOS 13 with a total redesign, and Messages has a new profile feature to share your name and photo with people. There are a ton of new Memoji customization options and three new Animoji: a cow, an octopus and a mouse. Animoji / Memoji stickers have been added so you can use your Memoji in Messages, Mail and other apps.

Siri has a new voice, but it does not look very different and offers updates to CarPlay, AirPods, HomePod, and more. carplay has a new interface, AccueilPod supports Handoff so that you can transfer music from an iOS device to AccueilPod, and with AirPods, you can connect two to a single iPhone to share what you listen with a friend.

HomeKit arrives at routers in iOS 13In addition, the new Secure Video feature ensures that recorded video is scanned directly to your device and sent as an encrypted stream to iCloud, so you can be sure that no one is spying on your home cameras.

A new scan-based QuickPath keyboard option has been added, and Apple has made text editing easier with scrolling improvements and smoother cursor movement.

The Health app has a new feature to monitor the health of the hearing and a new option to follow the cycle to track menstrual cycles. There are also tons of iPadspecific changes but we will review those in a separate iPadOS video coming later this week now that iOS and iPadOS are somewhat separate operating systems.
