Founding member of The Fugees, Pras Michel, has serious legal problems with the federal government for allegedly channeling millions of dollars in campaign contributions.
Federal prosecutors of D.C. slapped the rapper of a four-count indictment on Friday … claiming he was an infamous Malaysian businessman Jho Low conspired to divert funds from foreign accounts to make a political contribution to the United States … apparently for President Obama.
Although the indictment does not name Obama, he says that Pras donated a presidential candidate in the 2012 election, and specified the dates he would posed for photos with this candidate. According to several reports, the candidate was Obama.
Pras posted photos with Obama … although the date they were taken is not clear.
According to the documentation obtained by TMZ, Low would send the money to Pras … who would then recruit friends – or "straw donors" – and then divide the funds between them … so that they could make smaller donations to political action committees. The federal government estimates that the smallest donations were made to disguise the source of the money … namely Jho Low, who was also indicted.
It is forbidden for all foreign entities – not just Russia – to use money to influence the US elections.
As we reported, the federal government filed a civil lawsuit last year against Low, and although The alleged involvement of Pras was mentioned in this lawsuit … he was not an accused. He told us that he was innocent.
Fast forward to Friday … and Pras is setting a jail sentence. The indictment accuses him of conspiracy, false statement and 2 counts of false entry into the record.
