Jennifer Lawrence put her belly on display at the Abortion Justice Rally in Washington, DC on Saturday.
The actress – who is expecting her first child with husband Cooke Maroney – attended the Women’s March and Planned Parenthood-supported rally with her friend, Amy Schumer, who documented the outing on Instagram.
Lawrence, chic in a plaid dress and denim jacket, proudly held up a sign that read: “Women cannot be free if they are not in control of their bodies,” while Schumer said: “Abortion is essential” .
In the photo caption, Schumer referred to her recent surgery to remove both her appendix and her uterus due to extensive endometriosis.
“I don’t have a uterus and she is pregnant but we are here,” the comedian wrote.
Lawrence, 31, and Schumer 40, attended the rally to show their support for abortion rights in response to Texas passing Senate Bill 8, a law banning abortion after six weeks pregnancy, without exception for incest or rape.
Protesters also hoped to be seen and heard before the next Supreme Court hearing over Mississippi lawmakers’ request to quash the Roe v. Wade, according to Reuters.
In addition to the rally in DC, over 650 events took place in connection with the Women’s March across the United States over the weekend.
In New York City, hundreds of protesters crossed the Brooklyn Bridge as around 2,000 gathered for a rally in Foley Square. The two groups met at one point in Washington Square Park.
Lawrence’s appearance at the rally came just weeks after she confirmed she was pregnant with her first child.
This will be her first baby with Maroney, whom she married in October 2019.
