Amazon Prime members can now receive their orders online in one day with the deployment of a one-day delivery for over 10 million items, the company announced Monday.
The announcement came after the company announced that it was investing $ 800 million in its distribution network to accelerate the standard delivery of its premium products, which would go from two days to one day.
Amazon's one-day free shipping is available to Prime members in the United States. The service requires no minimum purchase and applies to these 10 million selected items. Amazon plans to add more eligible products to one – day shipping and expand its delivery areas. It will also continue to offer Prime Now and the same day delivery, as well as millions of items for delivery within two days.
The company's distribution network in the United States includes 110 distribution centers, 40 sorting centers, 100 distribution stations and 20 airbridges. According to a press release, this allows Amazon to deliver orders faster and more efficiently.
Amazon's plan to increase its speed of delivery to a day has raised the bar of competitors. Walmart.com has announced that it would begin offering a one-day no-membership delivery for 220,000 items a month after Amazon has announced its plan to investors.
Amazon already offers same-day shipments to customers outside the United States. Many leading members of the European Union already have the option of free shipping in one day. In Japan, most Prime orders are shipped the same day. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico can enjoy free delivery with Prime, but shipping times can take up to five days, depending on where the products come from, Amazon said.
