Preschoolers in Obama-inspired inauguration outfits catch the attention of former first lady

There was no shortage of buzz about opening day fashions, and 4-year-old Reyleigh Hampton wanted to jump into the action.

The preschooler went viral after he recreated the monochromatic look of former first lady Michelle Obama’s pants and turtleneck and shared it on social media with a photo featuring Zayden Lowe dressed for the role of former President Barack Obama.

Reyleigh’s photo even caught the attention of Michelle Obama herself, who reposted the image on her social media accounts and said the pair had “made it!”

Reyleigh’s aunt, Zoe Hampton, said that while watching the inauguration last month on television, her family’s “mouths” collapsed as soon as they saw the Obamas arrive.

“They were absolutely gorgeous,” said Hampton. “Ryleigh had recently recreated looks from Kamala Harris and Prince, and we knew once we saw Michelle and Barack come out that we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to recreate him.”

Hampton’s grandmother got down to business and helped create the girl’s look.

“We’ve always said jokingly, ‘What if Michelle Obama really sees this? but when it did we were more than thrilled, ”said Hampton. “It really doesn’t get any better than that.”

Reyleigh and Zayden, who wore a coat and tie, posed for their photo outside the Florence County Library in South Carolina.

Hampton’s aunt says Ryleigh loves to dress up and fell in love with the wine-colored outfit, which made the photoshoot even more fun.

“Although at this age I think Ryleigh is taken in how cute clothes are and how cool it is to do a photoshoot with her best friend, I hope that as she gets older she will understand.” the deep meaning of the photo, ”said Hampton. “The Obamas are amazing role models, and I hope she aspires to be a strong, confident African American woman, just like Michelle Obama. That’s why representation matters. I hope she and Zayden realize that ‘they can be whatever they want to be! “
