After what appear to be years of teasers, spy snaps and rumors, Porsche is finally set to unveil the next generation 911 GT3 on Tuesday, February 16. On Thursday, the company released a teaser video showing clues to the car’s final design, such as its exhaust rating.
The 14 second clip isn’t exactly long, but it’s more than enough to get us excited. The new GT3, based on the 992-generation Porsche 911, is expected to receive a version of the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six from the latest 911 Speedster. That means things like individual throttle bodies and a 9,000 RPM redline. It should produce over 500 horsepower and sounds absolutely fantastic in the video above.
While the car in the teaser features Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission, a good old-fashioned six-speed manual will still be available for purists who want to row their own. Car and driver, during its December race with a prototype, confirmed that the bonnet and engine cover would be made of carbon fiber. And that the multi-link front suspension will be derived from the RSR racing car.
On the surface, we expect the car to largely resemble the photos of the prototype released late last year. This means a 992 with an overhauled front end, large rear wing, center-exit exhaust and diffuser. We won’t have to wait too long to see the model ready for production.
