Preview of Star Wars: Vader Immortal – The Force is Powerful with this Virtual Reality Experience

Darth Vader has a test for you, and it could be your last. This is so Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series start. You are a smuggler who mysteriously ends up stranded on the volcanic planet of Mustafar, trapped in the dungeons of the terrifying Vader Castle.

This would mean the loss of an ordinary smuggler, but as a brief demo with the new virtual reality experience, you are anything but ordinary. In fact, once you prove to Lord Vader that you can help him, he spares you your life and opens a new path for you, the lightsaber!

Den Of Geek US spent a few glorious minutes on Star Wars Celebration's Oculus / ILMxLab booth and tested the new virtual reality experience. The new Oculus Quest helmet, which will be released in the spring of 2019, was extremely impressed. the most impressive was Vader Immortal himself, who feels like an exciting new Star wars play at a time when there is so little hope.

Certainly, it will be difficult to find another title that brings you closer to Vader. Not since the first Unchained Force game. Has the Sith Dark Lord been so terrifying (on an interactive medium), while he dominates you in the first minutes of the game.

ILMxLab has done everything possible to provide a realistic Vader and you will be quickly seduced by this experience during your first tense encounter with the naughty, imposing and big as hell. (The hell is big enough, right?) If you're a little Stormtrooper man, you'll have to watch him as he stands near you and hands a mysterious box.

Inside the box, if you are able to solve a relatively simple puzzler and open it, you will find a Kyber Crystal, the precious resource needed to make lightsabers (as well as the superlaser of the death star). Opening the box seems to indicate that the player is sensitive to the Force, even if it has not been addressed directly in the short story section. (The story mode is not very long in general – it should only take about 45 minutes to an hour for the players.)

The presentation is initially cinematic, more than your average virtual reality game, and the Oculus Quest headset provides the cleanest images you can see in virtual reality. First, looking from one side to the other is natural and lacks the motion blur of its predecessor. The light and the shadows – main parts of the presentation inside the Vader Castle – are superbly rendered Better yet, none of it seems pixelated or muddy.

After your encounter with Vader, you are transported to the Lightsaber Dojo, a survival mode designed around parry attacks, blaster fire and drive droid strikes. While the first levels allow you to be slow and methodical about how you have combat remotes (similar to those described in New hope), the last rounds are agitated, as more advanced droids surround you on all sides.

This is where you can truly test your lightsaber skills and endurance. The dojo turns out to be quite a workout, as you turn quickly to shoot down a droid or to ward off the enemy's attack. A mixture of blaster fire, melee attacks and growing waves of enemies means you have to develop ultra-fast reflexes to progress at the highest level. ILMxLab has not revealed how far we could go with this survival mode, but the challenge is certainly there from the beginning.

One thing to note is that the demo really took advantage of a large open space to play. While the headset itself sets invisible walls and warns you when you're about to fall out of bounds, the fast-paced lightsaber action can result in some vases or broken lamps if you do not do not pay attention. Make room, you must, before converting your salon into a lightsaber training center.

It is difficult to give a verdict on the overall experience, but this demo heralds something very promising. Narrative designer Mohen Leo explains after the game that although the first chapter of the three-part series focuses on the action of the lightsaber, the following chapters may begin to explore other elements of the series. Star wars universe, such as the powers of the Force.

"It's something we'll tackle in the following episodes, so there's really a tease of this [in the first instalment], "Leo says." And then, with episodes two and three, we have a lot of opportunities to go to other parts. "

There are allusions to a much bigger adventure beyond the walls of the Vader fortress, with both a ship called The Windfall and a droid named ZOE3 (voiced by comedian and actress Maya Rudolph), Mustafar is to guess . For now, Leo and the rest of the team are thrilled that players are exploring the grim corridors of one of the unwanted places of the galaxy, far, far, far away.

"You will see very unexpected parts of the castle," Leo teases. We are looking forward to playing more.

Vader Immortal: The first episode will be launched on Oculus Quest on May 21st.
