Preview of the series – Dodgers welcome Yankees at Dodger Stadium

[ad_1]

The Dodgers are welcoming their longtime foe, the New York Yankees, this weekend for a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. Both teams bring the league's best records to this game as the Dodgers improved two games to 85-44 against the 83-46 Yankees.

A huge crowd is expected at Dodger Stadium, which could be a preview of the World Series. The Dodgers are the main opponents of the National League, while the Yankees have to face the Astros, among others, in the American League.

The winner of this series will have the first tiebreaker for the home field advantage if both teams finish with the same record and face each other in the World Series.

From 1941 to 1981, the Dodgers and Yankees played 11 world series against each other, accounting for the highest amount of all matches in the history of world series.

The only thing missing in the series will be the traditional uniform of each team as both teams will wear their players' weekend uniform for each of the three games played.

Friday: Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-3, 1.64 ERA) vs. James Paxton (9-6, 4.53 ERA)

First step: 19:10 PT // SportsNet LA, FB-WATCH (only available on the market)

Two left-handed pitchers will launch the first game of the series. Hyun-Jin Ryu will bring his best Major League title against James Paxton.

Ryu allowed more than two points in just his third of 22 starts of the season in his last game against the Braves last weekend. But though it's been pretty much everywhere he's pitched this season, Ryu has shone at Dodger Stadium in 2019.

In 11 starts, Ryu is 9-0 with a 0.81 ERA in 77⅔. Ryu has taken 77 and has gone through 10. The Dodgers have won all starts of the season at home.

The only Yankee to have real experience against the Dodgers and in this case, Ryu, will be the DJ field player LeMahieu. LeMahieu has 2 defeats against 16 against Ryu during his career with a walk and two strikeouts.

James Paxton was traded to the Yankees by the Mariners last November. Paxton had been 41-26 with an ERA 3.42 with the Mariners from 2013 to 2018.

This season, Paxton's FIP surpassed 4.32 to 3.23 points last season and more than half a race more than his best seasons of 2016 and 2017 with the Mariners.

One of the reasons is the increase in the number of races allowed by Paxton. He had not dropped more than nine circuits in a season from 2013 to 2017. In the past two seasons, Paxton has allocated 23 innings in 160 in 2018, far in 113⅓ innings started in 2019, Paxton has seen 21 points against him.

Being in the American League throughout his career, Paxton has no history against a Dodger, the only players he could face are Russell Martin, Jedd Gyorko and Joc Pederson. Martin has nine games against Paxton, Gyorko has five and Pederson has played one against three against Paxton.

Saturday: Tony Gonsolin (1-1, 3.00) vs. CC Sabathia (5-7, 5.01)

First step: 13h05 PT // SportsNet LA, FS1

That may be what sums up this game, CC Sabathia will begin his 557th career start while Tony Gonsolin will be in his fourth career start.

Sabathia, 39, was recently activated after being placed on the 10-day wounded list with knee inflammation last month.

Gonsolin made his last shot on Sunday, conceding a point in four sets. This will be his second start at Dodger Stadium. He won his first start by winning six scoreless innings against the Cardinals earlier this month.

The Dodgers have not indicated how many more starts could be won by Gonsolin over the next few weeks. They said they would use six starters in this 16-game sequence in 16 days.

Gonsolin launched 59⅓ innings between Oklahoma City (Triple-A) and Los Angeles. Last season, Gonsolin launched 128 innings in total.

Sabathia has made three career starts against the Dodgers. The first was held in 2008 at Dodger Stadium, where he also hit one of his three career tours off Chan Ho Park.

Sabathia has already announced that it would be his last season, the winner of the 2007 Cy Young Award and a member of the last Yankee World Series winning team in 2009, Sabathia also has this fun, the only pitchers with more than 500 games started without a match dispute. Sabathia and Tom Glavine are in relief. Like Sabathia, Glavine never played a major game in a league where he did not start.

Sunday: Clayton Kershaw (13-2, 2.71) vs Domingo German (16-3, 4.15)

First step: 16h05 PT // ESPN

Clayton Kershaw (whose winning percentage of .867 is leading the majors against the Yankees and Domingo German) is at the rendezvous of Sunday night (at least for central and eastern time zones). .842 winning percentage.

DJ LeMahieu will add to his 66 games against Kershaw in this game. It's most of the appearances he has against a thrower. Zack Greinke is second on his list with 61 appearances.

In those 66 games, LeMahieu hit 0.27 / 333 / 0.361 with 14 strikeouts and five goals.

German is in his third season and, like many other Yankees pitchers, he has no history against the Dodgers. He has only pitched to Russell Martin and he will likely not be facing Martin on Sunday.
