Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding cake up for auction

After 40, you can finally have your Charles and Diana wedding cake – but not eat it too.

A 28-ounce slice of the cake from the day the Prince of Wales made the late and great Lady Diana a princess will be auctioned on August 11. The piece of cake is expected to fetch £ 500, or around $ 700.

The iced cake has a white marzipan base and is decorated with a sweet facsimile of the royal coat of arms colored in gold, red, blue and silver.

The coin was given to Moyra Smith, a member of Queen Elizabeth’s household at Clarence House. Smith stored the slice in a floral cake pan with a label on top that said, “Handle with care – Prince Charles and Princess Diane’s [sic] wedding cake ”, with the date“ 7/29/81 ”.

Smith sold the cake to a collector in 2008, who is auctioning it off. The bundle also includes a wedding program, ceremony details and a breakfast menu.

Chris Albury of Dominic Winter Auctioneers in the UK told The Huffington Post that the slice “appears to be in exactly the same good condition as when it was originally sold,” adding: “But we don’t recommend eating it. “.

Diana was married to Charles, now 72, from 1981 to 1996. The Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36.

The couple married at St Paul’s Cathedral in London with around 3,500 people in attendance. After the ceremony, the couple and 120 of their guests dined at Buckingham Palace for a wedding brunch.
