Prince harry and Meghan markle are no strangers to controversy, but now the polarizing duo are facing backlash for adorning the cover of TIME magazine.
This year the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made TIMEfrom the list of the 100 most influential people, in the “Icons” section. But some social media users criticize the chosen image for its stark and “awkward” appearance.
In the special issue, Harry, whose birthday was last Wednesday, and his wife Meghan were honored by their good friend and boss José Andrés for their militant and philanthropic action.
But despite the warmth they are generally known to show on the pitch, fans couldn’t help but speculate that the body language and blank expressions on the chosen cover look quirky.
“The only effort in this photo is the person who photoshopped 2 different photos together,” Noted one person.
“A horrible touch-up job. They look CGI ”, OK another user.
“What a strange photo … it looks like Harry is the same height as Meghan … is he hunched over?” commented another Twitter user.
“Who approved of this move ?! Is he standing? Is he seated? Does he cling to his shoulder so he doesn’t fall? Why would you want to make such beautiful people look like this? Another Twitter user demand, echoing the confusion as to why at 6ft 1 Harry appeared to be the same height as his beloved.
“It’s like he’s curled up behind her”, a troll joked with regard to the chosen pose.
Despite the less than brilliant reactions to the chosen photo, in the accompanying essay, Chef Andrés, who founded the World Central Kitchen, worked with Harry and Meghan to help feed poor communities, did nothing but glowing remarks on the couple.
“They are turning compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production, ”he explained. “Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need – by providing mental health support to Black women and girls in the United States and by feeding those affected.” by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean. ”

This isn’t the first time the couple have faced intense scrutiny during what should have been a party moment. As we previously reported, in August the former actress was criticized by Australian media for appearing “too smiley” in her 40th birthday video, which she used as an opportunity to announce her 40 × 40 initiative on the Archewell website.
While Markle and Harry top the “Icons” section of the list, other notables also include the pop star. Britney spearscountry superstar Dolly parton, tennis pro Naomi Osaka, and leader of the Russian opposition Alexei Navalny.
