Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson discussed the particular actions of the palace and Prince Charles as Prince Philip remains in hospital. Speaking about their ITV show, The Royal Rota, the duo agreed that the Palace’s language change was concerning. They initially noted that Prince Philip’s admission to hospital was just a precaution, while they have now said he has an infection he was suffering from in hospital.

On top of that, they noted that Prince Charles’ decision to take his father on a trip during a pandemic was “extraordinary”.

Ms Robinson added that it was even more unusual as Prince Philip rarely received visits from the royal family in hospital.

Mr Ship said: ‘Along with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, I think what worried everyone was not just the language change we got from the palace last week.

“The language of keeping it as an abundance of caution and that it was only for observation.

“While this week they say he has an infection and is on treatment and doesn’t come out for several days.”

On top of that, Mr Ship stressed the importance of Prince Charles’ visit to his father.

He said: “This is coupled with an unexpected visit by Prince Charles on Saturday, it rather worried everyone about the seriousness of his condition.”

Ms Robinson added: ‘That’s right, the Duke of Edinburgh is 99 years old and he will be 100 in June.

Saturday will mark the 11th night and longest stay the Duke of Edinburgh has ever been in hospital.

Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace confirmed Prince Philip was “comfortable and responding to treatment” but is not expected to be discharged from hospital for several days.

Royal expert Camilla Tominey, however, said the palace had tried to “allay any alarm”.
