Someone is about to shell out big bucks for a decades-old cake … which shows you just how great an event is. princess diana and Prince charles‘the wedding was at the time.
The 28-ounce slice, wrapped in plastic wrap and kept in a decorative box for 40 years, goes on sale August 11 – and the winning auction is expected to cost $ 700. Not a huge amount of money in terms of celebrity memorabilia, but … for an old cake ???
As you can see … the edge still has the royal coat of arms decoration … and it looks like no one has managed to take a bite of it – if anyone would, after all these years.
The announcement of the sale comes on the very day of what would have been Charles and Diana’s 40th birthday. The royal wedding – aka “Wedding of the Century” – took place on July 29, 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London with 3,500 guests present in person. An estimated 750 million people are connected across the world.
The slice of the wedding cake for sale was donated by the Queen Mother (queen elizabethmom) to Moyra Smith, whose family sold the cake in 2008 to a collector.
The winning bidder won’t walk away with just a 40-year-old slice of the pieā¦ the piece comes with a royal breakfast schedule, details of the ceremony, and a service order for the wedding.
