Priyanka Chopra apologizes for appearing in ads for skin lightening creams

Priyanka Chopra has apologized for doing a series of ads for a skin lightening cream, calling it one of the biggest ‘faux pas’ of her career.

The 38-year-old actress has been in commercials for Pond’s Garnier Cream before and now wishes she hadn’t.

Writing in her new memoir Unfinished, Priyanka said, “ I can’t go back and change what I’ve done, but I can apologize, and I sincerely do. ”

In an advertisement, the actress was seen losing her boyfriend to a lighter-skinned woman to win him back after she started using lightening creams.

When asked how she felt when she first saw the ad, she told The Guardian: ‘I felt sad, actually. I saw myself through my 13 year old eyes when I was making concoctions in my bathroom trying to lighten my complexion.

An old interview with the star resurfaced last year where she said: ‘I am very proud to be dark myself.

“I would never say you have to get righteous and that’s the only way you’ll be beautiful, because I don’t subscribe to that.

The actress was accused of being hypocritical by some on social media at the time as the quote was shared with the lightening cream ads.

Elsewhere during her interview, Priyanka also discussed the ‘cancellation culture’, saying her relationship with social media has changed because of ‘hate and negativity’.

She said: ‘Listen, we live in a world where the culture of cancellation exists so broadly because it’s easier to hate someone than it is to take a minute to figure out why someone is saying and doing this. he does.

“ I’ve always been someone who believes in the goodness of human beings, but it seems as the world progresses that we are afraid of each other and we are only looking for the worst one of the other.

Priyanka said she was previously unsure of her appearance and was encouraged by her brother to enter a beauty pageant when she was 17.

She won Miss India in 2000 and was crowned Miss World the same year, insisting she never believed she would win.

When asked if she thinks beauty pageants are degrading, Priyanka said what they stood for “ in general ” was, but said other things like the way you talk, your compassion and you “ connect with people ” were prominent in Miss World.
