Pro-Ject celebrates its 30th anniversary with Debut PRO

Revered turntable (and electronics) manufacturer Pro-Ject turns 30 in 2021. To mark the anniversary, the Austrian company has announced a new turntable in the Debut PRO. Not only. In Europe and the UK the unit is factory fitted with a brand new cartridge, the Pick it PRO – as manufactured by Ortofon – for a “Its lively and robust”. (Americans get Sumiko Rainer cartridge).

Whatever your territory, the cartridge will be mounted on a new one-piece 8.6-inch carbon tonearm (for rigidity) and its aluminum inner tube (for better resonance damping). This results in an adjustment of the azimuth (horizontal) and VTA (vertical) to ensure that the needle rests just therefore in the groove of the disc.

More information on the tonearm in the press release: “Nickel-plated aluminum components provide a harder and more resilient surface. Very high quality and durable components help us reduce materials that continue to age over time such as plastics. The precision CNC-milled parts are optically perfectly matched and underline the modern, simple and elegant design.

The speed of the turntable is controlled electronically – with a 33/45 rpm toggle switch at the bottom left of the plinth – with the motor decoupled from the plinth in a pendant mount.

The Debut PRO’s feature set is complemented by height-adjustable metal legs and a new aluminum top with a thermoplastic elastomer ring attached to its underside for resonance damping and minimization of wow and float. .

The Debut PRO will sell for € 750 / US $ 899 when it starts shipping in August 2021.
