President Biden was officially sworn in on Wednesday, but riots of the type blamed on Trump still broke out, damaging federal property and buildings.
Portland and Seattle Police Departments reported damage following rallies near federal buildings, while anti-fascist protesters burned US flags in Denver.
The riots took place on the same day as Biden’s inauguration, which was themed “America United”.
Trump has been accused of inflaming divisions across the United States, a narrative Biden acknowledged during his campaign for the presidency.
In the run-up to the 2020 election, then-candidate Biden posted an announcement saying he would seek to “turn the temperature down in this country, not turn it up” like Trump had done.
Biden has previously condemned violence of any kind, whether perpetrated by people identifying with the left or the right.
He suggested that Trump’s refusal to do the same put lives at risk.
“Donald Trump has been president for almost four years,” Biden said in response to the deadly violence in Portland over the summer. “The temperature in the country is higher, the tensions are higher, the divisions are deeper. And we are all less safe because Donald Trump cannot do the job of the American president.”

But even after polling day, the violence and protests continued.
On January 6, a group of pro-Trump extremists stormed Capitol Hill and besieged the Capitol buildings in an insurgency that left people dead. It was undertaken to protest the election results, spurred on by a baseless account woven by Trump that the election was “stolen” from him.
More recently, progressive protesters who appear frustrated with the Democratic Party have taken action.
As previously reported by Fox News, around 150 rioters in Portland damaged the Democratic Party headquarters on Wednesday.
Some members of the group of about 150 people smashed windows and spray-painted anarchist symbols in the political party building. Police said eight arrests had been made in the area. Some protesters carried a sign that read: “We don’t want Biden, we want revenge!” in response to “police killings” and “imperialist wars”. Others carried a banner stating “We are ungovernable”.
Portland has been the scene of frequent protests, many of which have involved violent clashes between officers and protesters, since the police assassination of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May. During the summer, there were protests for more than 100 consecutive days.

In Seattle, the local police department released photos of a courthouse with broken doors. People also reportedly threw objects at cars and journalists said protesters were protesting President Biden and law enforcement, carrying a sign reading “Abolish ICE.”
A small “anti-fascist” crowd gathered in Denver where American flags were burned and two people were arrested for weapons violations. These protests were against Trump, Biden, police violence and racial injustice, according to The Denver Post.
