Democrats have called Hawley “insurgent” for supporting Trump’s unverified allegations of widespread voter fraud and opposing Congress certifying electoral college results.

A Data for Progress poll, which polled 571 probable Missouri voters from Jan. 10-12, found that 51% of those polled in the state wanted Hawley to “step down immediately,” including 91% of Democrats, 52% of independents and 20% of Republicans. Protesters gathered outside Hawley’s office in Missouri on Tuesday as backlash against lawmakers escalated in his home state following the Capitol uprising.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), a union, organized the protest, in which citizens called on Hawley to resign.
