Project Eve gameplay and boss battle revealed by Shift Up

Shift Up, directed by Blade & Soul’s Kim Hyung Tae, has revealed the first gameplay video for the cross-platform action game, triple A Project Eve.

On November 26, Shift Up released a gameplay video for Eve Project. The video features the protagonist Eve locked in a boss battle against a monstrous beast. We learned several new details from the video. Keep in mind that these are still developing images.

Eve Project takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where Eve battles unknown invaders, the NA-tives, to reclaim Earth. This is the very first time we see Eve Project in action, a year after its announcement.

The first thing to note is that the gameplay gives us a first look at the game’s UI, which surprisingly has three different bars on top of what appears to be HP. Additionally, neither appear to be an endurance bar. Instead, the blue bar appears to be a shield, as Eve only loses a portion of her health when hit after the blue bar has been completely depleted. This second bar appears to be a charge gauge for the sword, which becomes enchanted with a red lightning bolt when you dodge and block hits. The number at the bottom right with the battery symbol indicates the number of times you can heal yourself.

In addition, in the same way as Bayonetta or Zelda BOTW, you can also trigger a The matrix and Max Payne like Bullet Time by dodging at the last moment. Eve has a multitude of sword-based combos at her disposal. The bosses also have orders. You also have to press a specific button within a short time to complete the boss, which seems like a Shenmue an inspired QTE mechanic.

EVE project First gameplay reveal, boss battle

Eve Project was first revealed on April 4, 2019 with a trailer. The action game is developed by Shift Up, a Korean studio founded in 2013 and run by Kim hyung tae. He is the character creator of Blade and soul, The war of Genesis 3, and the Magna Carta JRPG series by Softmax. Kim Hyung Tae has a particularly recognizable style. Which despises realistic anatomy even more than usual Japanese stylized works, with a huge emphasis on cool, cute, and sexy. Kim Hyung Tae also manages Eve Projectcharacter design.

Shift Up also mentioned during the reveal in 2019 that Eve Project is influenced in particular by God of war 2018 and NieR PLCs. In addition, Yoko Taro praised Eve Project.

Eve Project is described as a Triple A console project and is developed with Unreal Engine 4, high density 3D scanning, motion capture and face motion capture systems. A new team from Shift Up, called “Second Eve Studio”, is developing the game. It is mainly made up of Blade & Soul Staff.

Eve Project: Platforms

Although the platforms were not specified, Eve Project is developed “to show maximum performance on various platforms, including consoles”. In addition, Shift Up aims to be a “global cross-platform developer”. As such, we can expect Eve Project to launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Shift Up also makes the RPG mobile Child of fate, which is currently celebrating its 3rd anniversary. In addition, another game, TPS online Nikke the goddess of victory, was revealed with Eve Project in 2019. Nikke is slated for launch on iOS and Android. The character designer of the game is KKUEM, partner and spouse of Kim Hyung Tae. Shift Up is currently recruiting for both games.

Personally, I am far from being sold Eve Project again. Which is obvious because we haven’t seen anything concrete yet. I’m the type who is rarely impressed with action games like these. Hope I have a huge change of mind with this like what happened with Scarlet Nexus once he started to go deeper and revealed his female protagonist. One thing is for sure though, is that as an anime otaku, I really want to see more of Eve Project just for the design of the chara.
