Proud Boys leader Joseph Biggs arrested in Florida in connection with riot at Capitol Hill

Joseph Randall Biggs, 37, of Florida was arrested Wednesday and faces three charges – obstruction of process, narrow grounds seizure and disorderly conduct – for his participation in the Capitol seat on Jan.6, according to the ministry from Justice and an FBI affidavit. The FBI described Biggs in the affidavit as an organizer of the Proud Boys.

CNN Orlando affiliate WESH asked Biggs about the allegations of insurgency against the Proud Boys and said, “This will be discussed in court.”

Ahead of the Capitol Riot, Biggs posted on Speak, the far-right-favored social media platform, telling his supporters to blend in and not wear identifiable clothing, a special agent wrote. from the FBI in the affidavit.

“The only thing we’ll do is think like us! January 6 is going to be epic,” Biggs wrote, according to the affidavit. The document states that Biggs was also directing his statements to Antifa.

Authorities say Biggs said, “This is great!” on live footage of rioters entering the Capitol building, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that it appears the Proud Boys were wearing headphones to communicate that day.

“Your depositor also notes that several people were photographed or depicted on videos with headphones, including others suspected of being associated with the Proud Boys,” the FBI affidavit states.

The charges are part of a recent spate of federal cases that allege planning and organizing among far-right groups.

The FBI said Biggs told agents he entered the Capitol, but not using force, and denied any knowledge of the planning for the building’s assault.

Biggs has been an element in other mass gatherings involving the Proud Boys.

He is known for his extreme rhetoric against members of Antifa, the black-clad leftists who claim they are fighting fascism and often crush far-right events.
