JACKSONVILLE – Two weeks late, there are two weeks left.
The Jaguars kicked off Week 3 of the off-season 2019 off-season field game Monday, while head coach Doug Marrone discussed a new receiver and a minor injury.
Terrelle Pryor Sr., a veteran NFL receiver for eight years, signed with the Jaguars as a free agent Monday morning. The team relinquished first-year defensive lineman Lyndon Johnson.
"Obviously, you'll see it here, but we'll be smart," Marrone said about Pryor Monday shortly before the seventh practice of Jaguars-organized team activities at Dream Finders Homes near TIAA Bank Field.
Pryor (6-foot-4, 228-pound) has 115 career receptions with 11 touchdowns in 51 games. He has played for Oakland, Seattle, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Washington, the New York Jets and Buffalo. He played two games with Buffalo and six with the Jets last season.
"He really did not do anything with us," said Marrone. "I'm sure he's working hard, but we're going to bring him slowly."
Marrone also said Monday that goalkeeper Andrew Norwell would not train on Monday.
Norwell, a sixth-year veteran who signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted Carolina free-agent in the 2018 off-season, suffered what Marrone on Monday called a minor ankle sprain. Norwell missed the last five games of last season due to an ankle injury.
"He's inside," said Marrone. "He just has a very small sprained ankle."
Marrone said she did not worry about Norwell's injury.
"We may be smart later in the week, but it's something that if we had wanted it would have practiced today," said Marrone. "No conspiracy theory."
Marrone said he did not know if Norwell's ankle injury was injured last season.
"I would know more about something like," Hey, we have a problem, "Marrone said.
Several Jaguars players remained away from OTAs on Monday, including offensive midfielder Leonard Fournette, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, linebacker Telvin Smith, defensive back Yannick Ngakoue, wide receiver Marqise Lee and receiver wide Dede Westbrook. Fournette and Ngakoue attended many practices at the beginning of live training. Fournette did not attend Thursday or Friday and Ngakoue did not attend last week.
All off-season work, including OTA, is voluntary under NFL rules, except for a mandatory three-day minicamp in June.
The Jaguars have three more OTA sessions scheduled this week, their third week of OTAs. They also have three mandatory minicamp practices next week. These four weeks of practice represent the entire off-season program in the field.
