PS4 and Xbox One game canceled return from the grave following backlash

In February, an upcoming PS4 and Xbox One game was canceled, much to the dismay of PlayStation and Xbox fans who were eagerly awaiting the game. Months later, and after a noticeable backlash, the game was re-announced for PS4 and Xbox One. Specifically, the developers Dual Effect and Abstract Digital Works, as well as the publisher PQube, announced that in addition to PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Nintendo Switch, Tormented souls will be released on PS4 and Xbox One when it releases this year.

The news arrives on the official PQube Twitter account, which relayed the news this week in addition to the fact that a physical edition of the PS4 version is in the works alongside a physical version of the PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions.

For those who don’t remember: Tormented souls was first announced by the aforementioned trio in August 2020. At the time, the game was only announced for PS4 and Xbox One. Then, in February 2021, the game was canned for those platforms for the benefit of the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox One. At the time, it was not well received. It is not known if this backlash played a role in this reversal, but it probably is.

Unfortunately, that announcement did not come with any information on the exact release date of the game. Right now we know that it will be released in 2021, but that’s all we know. Given that the title is a horror game, releasing it around Halloween would make sense, but at the moment, it’s just pure speculation.

“Inspired by the classic survival horrors of resident Evil To silent Hill, Tormented souls is a modern take on the fixed-perspective adventure, ”the game’s pitch reads.“ Drawn by fate (or perhaps something more sinister) to the small town of Winterlake, play Caroline as she is fighting for her life, for answers and for an escape from the decrepit hell in which she finds herself. “
