That’s it, my friends: starting today – Thursday, November 12 – the Sony PlayStation 5 is officially available in the United States. Both versions of the PS5 are now available: a digital version for $ 400 and a model for $ 500 with Blu-ray. (If you have good broadband and don’t need optical discs – used games, Blu-ray movies, old PS4 games – we recommend go with the $ 400.)

That may sound like good news, especially since Sony’s pre-order window in September left almost a small number of gamers frustrated with broken sites, poor communication, and near-instant sales. But our advice is not to give you hope. If you haven’t successfully pre-ordered a console yet, don’t expect to be able to walk into Best Buy next Thursday and pick one up in store. The launch will be done online only, and we expect stocks to be limited for the rest of the year.

But there is new hope for launch day: Walmart has publicly pledged that it will have online inventory at 3-hour intervals on launch day:

We always expect these to sell out instantly, but at least you know when you can start hitting the refresh button.

Want to spin the roulette wheel? We’ve rounded up all the retailers below where you might be able to get a console. Good hunt.
