Microsoft has the most powerful next-gen console on paper, but that’s not what most real-world comparisons show.

But that’s not the story the launch games tell, where the Xbox Series X – in most cases – matches the PS5 best and inexplicably falls below Sony’s console at worst.
This is based on testing from Digital Foundry, which has so far shown this lead in Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition’s 120fps performance mode to boot.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla also suffers from similar issues, with dips below 60 fps and screen tears on Xbox Series X which is not present on PS5.
In Dirt 5, the PS5 has a head start in both Image Quality and Performance modes, with more image detail in both modes.
According to The Verge, this may be a side effect of developers receiving Xbox Series X devkits later than those for the PS5. The developers also told the site that they weren’t allowed to submit Xbox Series X games for certification until June, after Microsoft updated its Game Developers Kit (GDK) toolset.
Unsurprisingly, Microsoft has kept tabs on all of this and claims to be working with developers to correct these disparities.
“We’re aware of performance issues in a handful of titles optimized for Xbox Series X | S and are actively working with our partners to identify and resolve issues to ensure an optimal experience, ”a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge.
