Sony has dropped a major suspicion on the future of the PlayStation brand and more specifically the PS5.
As the release date of the PS5 approaches more and more, Sony has started discussing some of the changes that will be made to the PlayStation brand.
Inspiring successful games such as Fortnite, GTA Online and Call of Duty, Sony wants to release its own multiplayer classic.
That's what Shawn Layden, a Sony executive, told Business Insider that the company needed to improve its multiplayer mode.
"We do not do so much in multiplayer," he said.
"We have that with sports titles, and some race titles, but not with much more.
"And I think that says a lot about the power of the Internet, but otherwise, we might want to come back to it so that the family is more involved in the gaming experience."
Layden said that while Sony is capable of delivering narrative-inspired adventures, exclusive multiplayer experiences were sorely lacking on the PS4.
"I was referring more to things like" GTA 5 Online "or" Call of Duty "or" Fortnite ", or any of those experiences," he said.
"International studios, as I said, put a lot of emphasis on story-based gaming.
"The Power of Storytelling: Great and Spectacular Experiences, but not much in multiplayer mode, in my opinion, this is an area in which you are likely to see us start making more noise in the new term."
According to Layden's comments, we may see the Royal Battle of The Last of Us on PlayStation 5.
The PS5 would have a 2020 release date, but will be revealed later this year.
A release date for 2020 would give Sony a chance to release its final set of PS4 exclusives, most of which fall into the narrative category cited by Layden.
This includes The Last of Us 2, Days Gone, the dreams of Molecule Media and the ghost of Tsushima.
Days Up Gone, whose release is scheduled for April 26 on PS4.
