The past week has seen several PS5 restockings, and this week we’re starting with a restocking of Sony’s PlayStation Direct. A few lucky ones received email invitations Monday, giving them exclusive access to buy a PS5 directly from the PlayStation manufacturer on Tuesday. Replenishment begins at 12:00 p.m. PT (3:00 p.m. ET) and typically Sony opens the store to the public two hours later, although that doesn’t happen every time. If you are wondering how people were able to get exclusive access to buy a PS5, read below on what you need to do to get one.
It’s not easy to find a PS5. When new ones arrive, the stock of consoles quickly runs out without fail. The best way to get one now is to figure out which place is likely to have them next and be ready to buy right away. Need help? We’ve put this guide together to try and make getting a PS5 a little easier.
Why is it so hard to find a PS5?
Sony’s latest console is still hard to find, months after its launch. Contributing to the difficulty is the fact that scalpers use bots – and the global chip shortage keep on going. Sony says it is aware of the problem and is looking for a solution, but at the moment it is still incredibly difficult.
“We are working as hard as possible to improve this situation,” Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, told Wired in May. “We are seeing production increase over the summer and certainly in the second half of the year, and we hope to see some sort of return to normal in terms of the balance between supply and demand during this. period.”
How do I get a PS5 on PlayStation Direct?
The store with the most frequent PS5 restockings is still PlayStation Direct, where drops often take place in the afternoon and force people to queue for a chance to buy a console. If you don’t get one by then, it’s still worth joining the queue, as some patient and lucky customers may receive Priority Access email directly from Sony. The company hasn’t provided full details on these PS Direct emails, but you must sign up for Sony’s marketing emails and have a PS Plus membership – and you must be signed in to your PSN account. If luck is on your side, it’s possible that Sony will send you an invitation to buy a PS5.
When you’re in a queue, one thing to know is how much time you have left before you get to the front row. The shorter the better, but this is not a guarantee. To increase your chances, once you’re in a queue, share the link with your other devices like your phone. Make sure that each device uses a different IP address (for example, having your phone on its mobile plan while your computer is using your home Wi-Fi). This may improve your odds, as your other device may be placed in a different queue that moves faster. Even if you don’t get a PS5, as mentioned earlier, you can still get a pass to buy one on the next round.
What are some useful tips for finding a PS5?
While big retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy don’t typically give much notice of a restocking, your best chance at scoring a PS5 is to log in as soon as inventory drops. Even then, nothing is guaranteed, but there are ways to improve your odds.
First tip: don’t wait to see an alert for a PS5 inventory drop. Check out the links at major retailers for stock updates daily or even multiple times a day. (We’ve lined them up below.) If you’re having some PS5 availability, go for as many browsers and devices as possible. On a desktop computer, for example, open the retailer page in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Then do the same on your phone and tablet. The more devices and browsers, the better. It’s like with lottery tickets: The more you have, the better your chances of winning.
Second tip: Create accounts at the various retailers and make sure you’re already signed in if you’re going to try and get a PS5. Make sure all of your shipping, billing, and payment information is up to date on any device you can buy on, whether it’s laptop, desktop or a phone. This makes verification much faster which is crucial as retailer sites get bogged down quickly causing people to lose their chance to get a PS5.
Where can I buy a PS5 if I’m willing to pay extra?
If you start to crack and plan to buy a PS5 right now (and we know that with the number of big ps5 games the pressure is on), you can do it, but at the cost of significant markup on sites like eBay and StockX. On eBay, for example, we’ve seen PS5 units priced over $ 1,000. We think it’s worth the wait and get the PS5 at the sticker price.
PS5 replenishment possibilities
You can check the inventory of the $ 400 digital edition at Walmart by clicking the button below, or you can try grabbing the more expensive PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.
You can check out Amazon’s page for the digital edition at $ 400 via the button below or, if you prefer, line up for the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.
Best Buy is offering the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500 as well as the digital edition for $ 400 (which you can find by clicking the button below). The retailer also offers a host of accessories on its PS5 landing page.
Target is offering the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500 in addition to the PS5 Digital Edition, which you can find by clicking the button below.
Newegg’s PS5 page offers several packs that include additional controllers and games with the console. You can see the different options by clicking on the button below.
If you’ve decided that you just can’t wait another moment for Sony to pull itself together and flood the inventory market, eBay is a shortcut to getting your own PS5 right now. That said, let me reiterate our advice: no PS5 is worth spending hundreds of dollars above the list price, and that’s exactly what you’ll need to do if you’re buying from an eBay reseller. The average price of the PS5 on eBay is around $ 850.
OK, you’ve exhausted all online and physical retailers, and you’ve decided you’re willing to pay over $ 300 to get this puppy soon. As friends, we have to tell you: Do not do it. But if you don’t want to listen to us, you might want to check out StockX, an eBay alternative that’s made a name for itself in the aftermarket for branded sneakers and clothing. The last time we checked, the PS5’s prices were hovering around $ 700.
