Update: The next Target PS5 and Xbox restock date is scheduled for Thursday March 11, TechRadar can finally report today. This confirms our previous report from the start of the week, indicating that Target stores were hoarding PS5 and Xbox consoles to go live this week.
The information – essential for finding those hard-to-buy consoles that sell out in minutes – was first produced by YouTuber Jake Randall, who specializes in restock videos and live streams on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Presently, it has been imbued with inside information from major retailers in the United States.
It will look like (from two weeks ago):
🚨🚨🚨PS5 restocking! 🎯 TARGET 🎯 in the US has it right now.♻️RT this + follow @mattswider + @techradar for Xbox and PlayStation 5 instant updates .co / Su99c2dOCs👇March 9, 2021
TechRadar previously confirmed that Target employees were preparing for a PS5 restock for this week. We knew the Xbox Series X restocking was also being prepared for the same online-only ordering process, employees tell us. Sometimes one console will go live before the other, because Target staggers the deployment from 15 to 30 minutes.
“We have about 8 Xbox consoles and 22 PS5 consoles,” we were told in a direct message on Twitter Sunday from a Target employee who wishes to remain anonymous. At three Target stores, employees told us there are many more PS5 Disc editions – and very little to no PS5 digital editions for Target’s impending replenishment.
Tips for getting the Target PS5 restock
Important: Target employees told us not to show up to stores to order either console. These are online orders only with an in-store pickup option. Essentially, Target doesn’t want crowds of people showing up to walk the aisles.
Pro type: Target places orders online only, but allows in-store pickup. This means that some stores, especially those in large cities, will sell out faster. Try to adjust your pickup location if the nearest store is sold out.
Target uses its local stores for next-gen console purchases, and it doesn’t ship from regional warehouses directly to consumers, as we see with just about every other retailer in the United States. This means that it is more difficult for scalpers to buy inventory nationwide.
There’s a caveat if you’re on the West Coast: The last time there was a major Target PS5 restock, it happened at 8:00 a.m. EST, so it’s best to be prepared. to wake up early, even if that means you need to be woken up at 5am PST. Of course, it could happen a little earlier, or a little later.
We first heard that the PS5 restock was this week, as early as Monday from our Target warehouse sources, but as late as Thursday from others. That left open the possibility that it would be later in the week, which is exactly what we are seeing. It’s up to Target’s head office to call store managers.
Given that the many Target employees who have spoken to us, and the customers who sent us a flurry of booth photos, are from different parts of the United States, this is intended to be a larger replenishment nationwide. when this happens.
We saw something similar exactly two weeks ago when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were sold online for in-store pickup. The consoles only lasted a few minutes before Target sold out completely.
The good news is that it hasn’t been as hard to grab hold of either console as what people experienced during Walmart and Best Buy restockings late last week.
Not all stores will have this replenishment. TechRadar visited the Herald Square store in Manhattan, and employees said they don’t often wear the PlayStation 5. So it may be available store by store.
The next target closest to us with probable inventory in New York was their biggest store in Harlem. Based on our reports, calling Target stores may not give answers regarding console stock. Their main line includes an automated messaging machine that insists they don’t give out PS5 and Xbox restocking information.
TechRadar also has several photos of boxes in Target’s backroom showing Xbox Series X and PS5 inventory. We initially withheld these images until we could ensure that there were no marks that could be traced back to our sources.
Will other retailers get the consoles this week?
We saw a limited restocking of the PS5 and Xbox Series X this week from Costco on Tuesday morning and a major push for the GameStop bundles on Tuesday afternoon. Thousands of people have finally been able to access the console thanks to our alerts.
However, we may not be finished. Best Buy is racking up more PS5 and Xbox inventory right now, according to the photos we get from their warehouses. Again, we received images and edited the UPC codes and signs on the walls that could be traced back to our sources.
While Target is slated for Thursday, we don’t have an official Best Buy date yet. Instead, we know the model from the store: it’s 3 for 3 for the next-gen console replenishment launch on Friday. Will that give us a fourth aid – a full month? That’s what we’ll be looking for on Friday afternoon, regular launch time.
Target PS5 inventory now appears in kiosks
Here’s another clue that the consoles are coming: Target customers nationwide have seen PS5 inventory being displayed on newsstands Sunday night ahead of the scheduled sale. Twitch streamer MyGuyMcFly took a photo and sent a photo to TechRadar, seen below, showing 18 PS5 consoles in stock at a local target in Minnesota, suggesting they had at least one inventory.
Even more PS5 consoles are stored at a Target in Austin, TX, with customer Esteban reaching out to us on Twitter to share a photo in a direct message.
“I went to my local target a few minutes ago and they have some in stock,” he told us. The screen shows more than 25 PS5 consoles on hand and 41 on the back. None had yet been sold. He noted, “For PS5 Digital Edition, they only have 6, so I’m most likely aiming for the Disc version.”

The PS5 has been nearly impossible to find in stock for more than a few minutes each time stores restock the Sony console. We find that the same can be said about the Xbox Series X. Sony and Microsoft are launching their respective consoles in November 2020 and have not been able to manufacture enough to meet demand.
Stores like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy regularly add new inventory to their stores and the stampede of people coming to their sites often blocks pages. Four months after the initial launch, it’s still a burden to buy a next-gen console, even after months of customers constantly trying their luck.
