The White House will restart publication of its visitor logs once President-elect Joe Biden takes office, Biden’s transition spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Friday.
The move is a passage from President Donald Trump’s White House, which kept visitor logs at major White House offices, including the West Wing, private. The Trump administration faced legal challenges to its position and settled a lawsuit in 2018 to allow the monthly publication of visitor logs from certain White House offices, including the Office of Management and Budget and the Drug Tsar’s Office.
The politics of the Trump era have been criticized as a downgrade in transparency from the previous administration. Under President Barack Obama, the White House regularly archived and published the logs of visitors to its main offices.
