White House press secretary Jen Psaki became visibly annoyed during Monday’s press conference when asked if President Biden was aware that most of the criticism of the withdrawal from Afghanistan was about the fact that the Americans were “stranded” in Kabul.
“Does the president feel that most of the criticism is not about leaving Afghanistan?” Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked.

Psaki said it was “irresponsible” to say the Americans are stranded in Afghanistan. “I think it is irresponsible to say that the Americans are stranded. They are not. We are committed to bringing home Americans who want to return home.”
Doocy followed up and asked if “there are no stranded Americans” is the official White House position.
“I’m calling you just for saying that we are blocking the Americans in Afghanistan when we have been very clear that we are not letting Americans who want to go home,” Psaki said. “We’re going to take them home and I think it’s important that the American public hear and understand.”
Doocy then asked Psaki if Americans were getting beaten up by the Taliban and Afghans passing babies over barbed wire fences, which was what Biden meant when he said, “America is back”.

“What the president meant is that we will continue to lead in the world, including being the leaders in the evacuation of not only our Afghan partners, not just American citizens, but also our allies,” Psaki replied.
