70 minLiverpool was slightly improved in the second half but PSG dropped further. They failed to maintain the intensity of their first half and became careless and a little ragged. So, even though Liverpool has not been very creative, it still has a chance to reverse the situation.

69 min: Neymar passes a short corner to Dani Alves. Mane the breeze. But the PSG wins another. This time, Neymar sends a beautiful ball towards the penalty spot. Marquinhos gets up majestically and beats Lovren to give a head to the goal. Allison reacts smartly to push him away.

52 minLiverpool tries to concoct a decisive move while PSG sits in his half of the match. But there is no sign of ingenuity on the part of visitors.

49 minA hint of openness for Liverpool after Wijnaldum unleashed a left pass to Milner on the right. Milner sorted to drag it to Fimrino in the box. But Silva cuts it.

48 min: Di Maria looks at a free-kick to the left. Marquinhos thrusts the ball into the net … but he's offside!

47 min: Neymar and Mbappé try again to talk about Liverpool's right side but have to settle for a foul after Mbappé's fall.

46 min: The same alignments are back for the second half, surprisingly. Klopp obviously hopes that a team discussion will do more to improve his team than an injection of one or two new players.

In the other match of this group, Napoli leads 2-0 at home against Red Star. If the Italians win this victory and Liverpool does not win here, Klopp's team will have to beat Napoli by at least two goals in their last group match. This would allow them to qualify despite the loss of their three away games.

Milner's penalty just before the break is a very interesting second period. PSG was far superior for most first – faster, more accurate, more skillful – but a ridiculous tackle from Di Maria as a result of Mané's nice strike helped Liverpool reduce his deficit. But they will have to do a lot more to get one point or more of this game. Shaqiri is necessary, to start.

Milner sends Buffon in the wrong direction and the ball in the corner. Spotkick perfect. Is this the stepping stone of an unlikely second half fight return?
