According to the official PlayStation Status website, some parts of the PSN are down and having issues. Specifically, the PlayStation Status website reports that Sony is aware that PS5, PS4, PS3 and PlayStation Vita gamers have “difficulty launching games, applications and network features.” And according to the support page, these issues have been going on for several hours, and as of yet, it’s unclear when they’ll be resolved.
While the games and social elements of PSN are struggling, all other aspects of PSN – account management, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Music, and PlayStation Direct – are all up and running as usual, however, reports are starting to surface of problems buying and downloading games from PlayStation Store.
At the time of publication, it is not known what the prevalence of the problem is or what the problem is, and as noted, it is also not known when a solution will be available. Typically, these issues are resolved quickly, but it has been going on for several hours at this point, which may suggest that this is a larger issue that Sony might need more time to resolve.
That said, this is a developing story, so we’ll be sure to update it as more official updates arrive. At this time, none of the official PlayStation social media accounts have fixed the issue, so updates are unlikely to happen this way, but the PlayStation status website is real-time and will provide said updates.
