The PlayStation Network appears to be down.
Earlier today, around 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. BST, it was rated by users that the PlayStation Network was inactive. GamesRadar + verified this and the PS5 error code given to those trying to log in is CE-109506-1.
PSN appears to have gone down for the PS4 and PS5 consoles, users noted. Throughout Twitter, various users have noted that the PlayStation Network appears to have been taken offline entirely. This means there is no access to the PSN storefront on the PS4 or PS5, and no online play on either console, which is a pretty serious issue.
At this time, there has been no official word from Sony on why the PSN is down. All we have to do for now is speculation about the nature of the outage, but if any official word comes from Sony or PlayStation, we’ll be sure to update this article immediately. For now, the official PlayStation website claims that all services are operational.
Naturally, we suggest that you take a look at our complete guide to PSN error codes for a solution on how to fix the problem. However, this is the first time that the error code CE-109506-1 has appeared for PS4 or PS5 consoles. Therefore, we do not currently know how to fix the problem itself, or if there is even a cure. It may just be a matter of waiting for Sony to make the necessary repairs on their end, rather than letting gamers do anything to reestablish the connection to the PSN servers on their end.
As we mentioned earlier, it’s not clear why the PSN appears to be down at the time of writing. However, we can report that Steam was also affected by a similar outage, which means that the large PC showcase is currently fully down. It would be interesting to know why these two servers were apparently taken offline at the same time, but we don’t think Sony or Valve would be too keen to reveal why.
In the meantime, if you’re still trying to get your hands on Sony’s increasingly elusive next-gen console, you can head over to our PS5 packs guide for the best deals around.
