It appears that several game services are currently down, following an outage in Akamai’s DNS Edge service. It appears that the outage resulted in the downtime of PlayStation Network, Steam, and Xbox Live. There are no details yet on how long this might last. On Akamai’s side, he noted that the company was aware of and was investigating the issue. The statement was released at 4:09 p.m. UTC on July 22, 2021.

Here is Akamai’s full statement.

We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service.

We are actively investigating the problem. If you have any questions or experience any impact due to this issue, please contact Akamai Technical Support. In the interests of time, we are providing you with the most recent information available, which is subject to change, correction and updates.

For the moment, the user reports are the only ones to mention it. Both the official PlayStation and Xbox sites list the status of PSN and Xbox Live as usual. Additionally, attempting to visit Steam may trigger a “Failed DNS service not available” message. Other games and services affected with issues that appear to be related include Fortnite.

It’s unclear how long the outage could last while PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam are down.
