Put Me On Team Woody – Mia Farrow Is Full Of It

Mia Farrow is still acting.

In the opening act of HBO’s new drama series Allen v. Farrow, the actress, appearing as primitive and tense as the state of Connecticut, once again recounts how she was emotionally mutilated by filmmaker Woody Allen, who dumped her. for an adult daughter and then, she claims, assaulted her other prepubescent daughter.

It’s a fascinating, yet oddly antiseptic, performance by an actress who made her life’s work revenge for the man who wronged her.

The problem is, it seems to me that not a word, with the possible exceptions of “and” and “but”, is true.

And, once again, Mia’s scorched earth revenge fantasy claimed an innocent victim – her daughter, Dylan, who was allegedly brutalized by Woody when she was 7. As she has done for decades, Mia exploits the now 35-year-old Dylan, mentally mutilating her, throwing her under the Woody bus in a twisted effort to destroy her former lover’s life, reputation and career.

Why did the filmmakers encourage her so cynically? Maybe because this hideousness makes for a better story than what actually happened.

Looking at Part One, released on Sunday, it’s helpful to compare Mia’s current tale of betrayal and endless eating at bustling restaurants to the one she testified to in a New York courtroom in 1993, when Woody sued her for custody of the three children. they share.

A pivotal moment in the episode comes as Mia recounts finding Polaroid photos of her daughter Soon-Yi Previn in Woody’s apartment across from Central Park. On the shots, Soon-yi is naked.

According to Mia’s revisionist story of the event, Soon-Yi, now 50, is not only in the buff, but the subject of harsh “porn” – straight out of “Hustler” .

The discovery of the evil skin treasure prompted Mia to hurry back to her apartment, shaking, she now says, to face her daughter.

“Soon-Yi was at home and I remember saying. “I found the photos,” Farrow recalls. “And she said, ‘What pictures?’ And I said, “The pictures that Woody took. And she started to cry and I started to cry and I was like, ‘No, no, it’s not your fault. And she was beside herself.

Soft.

And apparently wrong.

When Mia, now 76, testified in court 28 years ago, no one was crying. Instead, Mia testified, after confronting Soon-Yi about the simply “naked” photos, her daughter taunted her mother.

“The person who sleeps with [Woody] is the one with the relationship, ” Mia recalls bitterly as she told Soon-Yi. And then, Mia admitted at the stand that she hit and hit the young woman.

“I’m not proud,” Mia testified coldly.

In addition to this horrific – but honest – display of anger, I saw an exhibit in the courtroom that made me question Mia’s sanity. It was a photograph of Mia with her gigantic brood of biological and adopted children. Mia had plunged metal stakes into everyone’s chest to show Woody how his actions with Soon-Yi had broken their hearts.

There were other TV deviations from the story she had spun.

Mia says in the documentary that a therapist, circa 1990, voiced the opinion that Woody had acted “inappropriately”, but not sexually, towards Dylan around 1990, while Mia was still with him. She mentions this to explain why she stayed with Woody and had a child with him.

But the probable truth is much simpler – that no pedophilia has taken place. Not, as Mia claimed, in her Connecticut home. Not just anywhere. (Woody has firmly denied that this ever happened.)

Mia was granted primary custody of her children, but it has never been proven that she was completely right.

The fact remains that no matter how much Mia and her supporters want the abuse to be true, New York State officials have said they cannot prove the claims and abuse experts Connecticut children concluded that Mia may have “trained” Dylan to lie. he. Mia’s adopted son Moses, 43, has also long argued that his mother ‘brainwashed’ Dylan into believing him.

Woody and Soon-Yi have been married since 1997 and have two adopted daughters. There was never another molestation charge against him, before or after the one with Dylan. Experts in the field claim that those who attack young people tend to commit these crimes repeatedly.

The saddest thing is that Dylan Farrow seems to believe she was Woody’s prey. She may never recover from these seemingly false memories.

For that, the filmmakers and Mia Farrow should be ashamed of themselves.
