Qualcomm is also preparing a Snapdragon 7cx for PC

Last year, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8cx chipset for PC. But the firm also plans a low-end PC chipset.

Qualcomm has never officially announced this product. But Qualcomm Vice President Don McGuire has revealed his existence in an episode of the Mobile Tech podcast scheduled for Computex last week.

As you can imagine, given the name that, according to McGuire, was only tentatively named, Snapdragon 7xc will be less powerful than Snapdragon 8cx and less expensive to buy for PC makers. As such, it will target low-end computers between $ 300 and $ 800, while the 8cx will target high-end computers.

We do not know what kind of performance we can expect from the 7cx. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8cx is about as powerful as an Intel Core i5 processor in the U series. So it's possible that the 7cx offers a level of performance comparable to that of Intel Atom, Celeron or even Core processors i3.

MacGuire also makes an interesting claim about Google, noting that the search giant was initially interested in porting its Chrome browser on the Arm platform. The improved performance of 7cx and 8cx should change the spirit of Google.

Computer manufacturers should send the first Snapdragon 8cx-based computers in time for the holidays. But it is not clear if the 7cx will also be available at that time.
