A new standard called Snapdragon Sound is designed to dramatically improve the audio quality of mobile devices connected to today’s wireless headphones. While that may seem like an ambitious goal, Qualcomm’s James Chapman, vice-president voice, music, and wearables, said Snapdragon Sound was created to deliver “high resolution, wired quality audio” without sacrificing the convenience of today’s wireless devices.

Snapdragon Sound’s core technology takes advantage of the company’s latest mobile processors and combines them with Bluetooth latencies that Qualcomm says are 45% lower than its competitors to deliver24-bit 96kHz quality audio.

At launch, Xiaomi already logged in to create at least one new mobile device with Snapdragon Sound, while Audio-Technicone says it will also partner with Qualcomm to support Snapdragon Sound on a range of upcoming products. And in the future, Qualcomm hopes to support a wide variety of mobile devices, which will be marked with Snapdragon Sound badge including phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, etc.
