Huawei recently showed the world its Kirin 990 5G processor, delivering leading performance and a built-in 5G modem. This sounds impressive, while it is only available on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, which could be limited without access to Google applications.
Qualcomm will soon be at the rendezvous. It looks like they will unveil the Snapdragon 865 for the next generation of smartphones.
We have heard a lot about the Snapdragon 865 through leaks and benchmarks, and if these hold, there is no doubt that it will continue to be the dominant trend of Qualcomm in the hardware field. The first landmarks are that the chip turns a little faster than the newly manufactured Huawei's Kirin 990 5G, and if that holds up, it will give Qualcomm a few more months on top.
There are still questions about how 5G will be integrated into the platform, and that's where Huawei could still have an advantage. The current 5G phones using the Snapdragon 855 and other processors simply use a separate 5G modem, while the Kirin option is a fully integrated chip. That's what we hope to see at Qualcomm.
