Queen Elizabeth comforted by new Corgi puppies: report

It has been a difficult year across the board – even for Queen Elizabeth.

But the 94-year-old British monarch now has two new corgi puppies to cheer her up.

The adorable dogs comforted her as her husband Prince Philip, 99, remains hospitalized as he recovers from heart surgery, The Sun reported.

“The two are said to bring a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in the hospital,” an insider told the outlet.

The dogs are believed to be a gift for the long-reigning monarch, who has a well-documented love for the breed.

She is said to be “thrilled” by the extra company at Windsor Castle, where she has isolated herself with nearby staff amid the pandemic.

It has been about two weeks since her husband, over 70, Philip, was hospitalized, and the Queen has not been able to see any other family since December due to the coronavirus.

The new puppies, whose names and gender have not been released, arrived shortly after Philip went to hospital on February 17, according to The Sun.

“They’ve only been here a few weeks, but they are said to be adorable and have made the castle their home,” the source said.

The queen has owned more than 30 dogs since she was crowned in 1952 – all corgis or dorgis, which are a cross between a dachshund and a corgi.

All of her dogs were descendants of Susan, a corgi that Elizabeth received on her 18th birthday.

The new puppies aren’t part of that royal line – but that doesn’t stop them from comforting the Queen during a tumultuous time.

Buckingham Palace is bracing for what is set to be Oprah Winfrey’s explosive interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which airs on Sunday.

The palace appears to be fighting back against the couple’s anticipated attacks with a growing investigation into Markle’s alleged bullying behavior and a TV special.

The news of the puppies also came as a surprise as royal insiders had believed the Queen would never get another dog after she stopped breeding corgis in 2018.

His last corgi, Whisper, died in October of the same year. She has only had one dog, a dorgi named Candy, since Vulcan, also a dorgi, died last November.

“It is unthinkable that the queen does not have a corgis,” the source said. “It’s like the Tower of London doesn’t have a raven.”
