The Green Bay Packers clinched a decisive victory over the visiting Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Lambeau Field, using four touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers and a defensive touchdown to secure an important victory in the NFC North race.
The Packers, now 8-3, sent the Bears, now 5-6, to their fifth straight loss and widened their lead in the division to three games after 12 weeks.
Here are some quick snippets of the Packers’ 41-25 victory:
– Energy was a problem in the previous two home games. It was not a problem on Sunday night. The Packers came out in prime time against a division rival.
– Matt LaFleur composed great stuff from start to finish. The running play neutralized the Bears linebackers early on, and the passing play often created wide open receivers. Aaron Rodgers played really well, but it’s going to be fun to go back and watch all of the different game designs creating the big pieces. LaFleur was always one step ahead of Chuck Pagano.
– Three of Rodgers’ four touchdown passes are from action play.
– The Packers used a ton of throwing motions at the start, helping to create great lanes of traffic and speed up the start. The movement causes hesitation at the second level and can really create leverage for blockers. The Packers used it early and often to make life harder for Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan.
– Rashan Gary took the lead over Preston Smith, who responded with his most impactful game of the season. Gary deserved the start and the Packers must like the way Smith reacted to the situation.
– The Packers offense was near perfect on the third down and in the red zone against the NFL’s best defense on the third down and in the red zone. A situationally dominant performance.
–Darnell Savage was late for a turnover in 2020. He used his speed to intercept two stray passes from Mitchell Trubisky.
– The Packers’ three takeaways turned into 21 points, including the fumble return for a touchdown by Preston Smith. Rodgers threw touchdown passes on the discs right after Trubisky’s two interceptions.
– Kevin King and Raven Greene made a big play early on when they combined to break a third throw to Allen Robinson in the end zone. The game forced a basket after the Packers gave up a long run in the second game of the Bears’ first practice.
– Robert Tonyan caught Rodgers’ fourth and final touchdown pass, and he also converted a pair of fourth downs. The Packers were 3-for-3 on the fourth down.
– The Packers cross Corey Linsley and injury right guard Lucas Patrick. Something to watch out for ahead of next week’s visit to the Philadelphia Eagles. Elgton Jenkins played center, Jon Runyan played left guard, Billy Turner moved on to right guard and Rick Wagner played right tackle.
– Equanimeous St. Brown flashed. His two catches won first downs, including a 24-yard third down.
– I guess the defense will not be happy with the finish in the fourth quarter. Passive cover, which was good considering the score, but the rush pass hardly affected Trubisky in the fourth quarter.
– The Packers now have a three-game lead in the NFC North with five games remaining.
– The win was the Packers’ 100th over the Bears in the series of all time.
