Quinn Coleman, a major label executive, DJ and son of former BET chief Debra Lee, died on Sunday at the age of 31, according to numerous published reports.
Currently, the cause of Coleman’s death remains unknown. For more than two years, Coleman served as senior manager of A&R at Los Angeles-based Capitol Records, where he signed to the band Brasstracks, whose debut album is due out this week.
Previously, he worked with Warner Bros. Records as A&R manager and as marketing coordinator, and at Sirius XM and VH1 before that.
In 2007, co-founded DC en BC, LLC, a music and lifestyle brand that has engaged in several music-centric events. He was also a popular club DJ, performing under the name Spicoli.
“Quinn was a loving son, brother, cousin and friend, passionate DJ and A&R executive with a bright future ahead of him,” read a statement released by multiple media outlets. “Debra and her family are devastated by Quinn’s passing and demand privacy and respect as they mourn together.
Tributes for Coleman are pouring in from all over the music industry. “Quinn’s positivity and passion was contagious, he made everyone around him feel good and always felt more than a friend than A&R,” Brasstracks said on their social pages. “He really believed in us and worked so hard on this project with us. We were the first act he signed on Capitol Hill and we were so proud to work with him. Quinn was family.
