Rachel Lindsay deleted her Instagram after a wave of harassment from Bachelor Nation.
Amid ongoing discussions about the racism surrounding the ABC franchise and Chris Harrison “stepping down” from the show, Van Lathan, co-host of Lindsay’s “Higher Learning” podcast, announced that she had deactivated her account on the social media platform Friday.
“She did it because it’s the hate she feels from ‘Bachelor’ fans that spouts her with all kinds of rude and hateful things to say,” he said in a video. Instagram.
He added, “You must all have the life of a king. Seriously.”
Earlier this month, Lindsay – who was the first black “Bachelorette” in the hit reality series in 2017 – confronted host Chris Harrison about the alleged racist behavior of current contestant Rachael Kirkconnell.
“I saw a picture of her at a sorority party five years ago, and that’s it, boom. This girl is in this book now, and she’s in this group now, and I’m like, really? Harrison, 49, said he was defending Kirkconnell, 24. When Lindsay, 35, pointed out that it was a “pre-war Old South party,” Harrison replied, “Is it [not] a good look in 2018, or isn’t it a good look in 2021? “
After the interview, Harrison issued an apology admitting he had spoken “in a way that perpetuates racism” and quickly announced that he would be withdrawing from the show.
Lindsay said Harrison made the right decision leaving the franchise, but Lathan said the backlash caused her to quit social media.
“Rachel is not responsible for Chris Harrison, a 49-year-old man who cannot read the play in 2021. She is not responsible for that,” he said. “It’s not his job to make excuses or provide cover for someone who doesn’t understand what f – k is triggering people in today’s world. It’s not. You are attacking the wrong person.
“Rachel, we love you, we are with you,” he concludes.
Kirkconnell – who is currently on Matt James’ season of “The Bachelor” – also apologized for her past behavior and called on fans to stop defending her this week.
“If you are in my comments or defend me anywhere by telling people that I haven’t done anything wrong, that there is nothing to be hurt, that there is nothing to be angry about or offended about, please stop, ”she said, adding place to tell people what they can and cannot be offended This is wrong. And that is part of the problem. So stop saying I didn’t do anything wrong. This is not true. “
James, 29, also broke his silence last week saying it was “devastating and heartbreaking” to learn of these situations.
