Rachel Maddow told her prime-time MSNBC audience on Wednesday that she had undergone surgery for skin cancer and said she was “absolutely fine.”

“They got it all, they got it all, I’m fine, I’ve got clear margins on it all,” the presenter said of the treatment she received at NYU Langone on Friday. “I’m going to be absolutely fine, I’m going to be totally fine,” added Maddow. “But that’s why I have a bandage.”

Maddow said she saw a dermatologist after her partner, Susan Mikula, noticed a change in a mole on her neck as they attended a baseball game.

And she said she wanted to use her own diagnosis to encourage others to get checked regularly. “Even the most worrying skin cancers” are now treatable if caught early, she said.

“It was only by the grace of Susan that I found mine in enough time for it to be fully treatable,” Maddow said.

“Have your skin checked.”
