Conservative radio host Larry Elder is running for recall elections in California to replace Democratic state governor Gavin Newsom.
Elder, 69, made the announcement on his show, which airs nationally, and is expected to file documents on Tuesday.
“I am running for governor because California’s decline is not the fault of its people,” Elder said in a press release. “Our government is what ruins the Golden State. Our schools are closed to students and their parents. Our streets are not immune to the rise in violent crime or the disaster of growing homelessness. Sacramento are not going to stop theirs It’s time to tell the truth We have a state to save.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the 69-year-old lawyer said he was initially reluctant to run for office in a state where Democrats have an unbalanced grip on power in Sacramento. Among the supporters who encouraged him to introduce himself: his fellow Conservative radio host Dennis Prager.
A slew of candidates have cast their names in the ring, including former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, who is posing as a Republican. Jenner’s team includes several agents who helped President Donald Trump’s campaigns in 2016 and 2020.
Other Republican candidates include San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, businessman John Cox and former House Representative Doug Ose.

The recall election is due to take place on September 14, when voters will first be asked if they want to recall Newsom and then who they want to replace him. It will take at least 50% of voters to vote for Newsom’s recall for the election to proceed and the winner will be the candidate who receives the most votes.
In total, around 60 candidates are vying to replace Newsom.

As previously reported by Fox News, a Sacramento County Superior Court judge on Monday rejected Newsom’s request to be put on the Democrat roll in the upcoming election after his office missed a deadline.
Newsom did not indicate his party preference when he filed his official response to the recall last year. There will be no party next to his name.
According to data from the California Secretary of State’s office, there have been 54 previous attempts to remove governors. Only one succeeded – the recall of Governor Gray Davis in 2003. Former bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was chosen to replace him.
