NFL teams gave up five players from Alabama high schools and colleges on Monday with a roster deadline of 3:00 p.m. CDT Tuesday.

Players withdrawn on Monday included:

· Los Angeles Rams kicker Austin MacGinnis (Prattville), who spent last season on the team’s practice squad. In Los Angeles’ 13-6 preseason loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, MacGinnis hit the left upright on a 40-yard field goal attempt, his only kick of the game. Prior to joining the Rams, MacGinnis played for the Alliance for American Football’s Memphis Express in 2019 and the XFL’s Dallas Renegades in 2020.

· Los Angeles Rams linebacker Derrick Moncrief (Prattville, Auburn), whose NFL career consists of 15 special teams in one game last season for the team after three seasons in the Canadian Football League. Moncrief was on the court for 21 defensive snaps and nine special team games and made four tackles in the Rams’ 13-6 preseason loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Bo Scarbrough (Northridge, Alabama), who joined the team as a free agent on August 6 after playing six games with the Detroit Lions in 2019 and one with the Seahawks Seattle in 2020. Scarbrough played five snaps and carried the football four times for 10 yards in the Raiders’ 20-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

Arizona Cardinals running back Ito Smith (McGill-Toolen), who joined the team as a free agent on Aug. 7 after three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Smith had 6 yards on two rushing attempts while playing six offensive snaps in the Cardinals’ 19-16 preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. Smith lost his spot in the roster as Arizona activated off-reserve / COVID-19 running back James Conner.

· Tennessee Titans safety Maurice Smith (Alabama), who is trying to return to the NFL field after missing a game last season. Smith was on the rosters for the Washington, Cincinnati and Tennessee Bengals football team last season after playing 15 regular-season NFL games from 2017 to 2019. Smith played 41 defensive shots, a high in the team, as well as five special teams games, in the Titans’ 23-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night, but he didn’t record any stats.

Each team is allowed to have 90 players on their training camp roster. But no more than 85 players can be on the active roster by Tuesday’s deadline.

Each team will have to reduce their active roster to 80 players by 3 p.m. on August 24 and will have to reach the 53-player regular season limit by 3 p.m. on August 31.

In the past, the NFL used a single deadline for teams to hit the regular season limit.
