The Oakland Raiders began releasing salary space after their spending spree, releasing wide receiver Jordy Nelson and quarterback AJ McCarron on Thursday, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN Channel.
Nelson's release comes after the Raiders spent a lot on the receivers' deal by acquiring Antonio Brown in a deal and then restructuring his contract to give him more money and signing a four-year contract with Tyrell Williams.

Williams signed a $ 47 million deal with a $ 22 million guarantee, a source told Schefter.
Nelson, who turns 34 on May 31, made 63 receptions for 739 yards and three touchdowns last season, his first with the Raiders. The Raiders have awarded Brown a new three-year deal with a maximum value of $ 54.125 million, including $ 30.125 million guaranteed, a source told Schefter.
The Raiders also entered into very expensive contracts with left tackle Trent Brown ($ 66 million four-year contract, including $ 36.75 million guaranteed by president) and security Lamarcus Joyner ($ 42 million over four years with $ 16.7 million guaranteed compared.
McCarron was acquired by the Raiders during an exchange with the Buffalo Bills before last season. He backed starter Derek Carr and appeared in just two games, completing one of three passes.
Nelson spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers, collecting 550 passes for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns.
