Yesterday we heard the Raiders cut the Pro Bowl cross Rodney Hudson. Not so fast. Las Vegas is actually trying to move Hudson through commerce first, a source told Josina Anderson (Twitter link).
In a follow-up TweeterAnderson notes that there are discussions of an exchange involving a “second day pick.” A day 2 pick would be a nice harvest for a player they were about to cut. This has recently been a trend in the NFL, for reports that a player gets cut only for the team to try to trade him at the last minute, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. It was reported that the Saints would cut the defensive tackle Malcom Brown, then they traded him to the Jags yesterday.
The dolphins were ready to cut Kyle van noy, then tried to exchange it, only to release it after finding no taker. Whether Hudson is traded or released, it still represents a dramatic overhaul of the Raiders’ offensive line. This decision follows the Las Vegas Cups Gabe Jackson and Richie Incognito and his business Trent Brown in New England.
Hudson, 31, was ranked 8th center overall in Pro Football Focus last season. The Raiders signed him for a three-year, $ 33.75 million extension in 2019. In six seasons with the team, he’s only missed four games overall.
The Florida State product and former Kansas City chief has made the Pro Bowl in three of the past five seasons and was a second All-Pro team in 2019.
