Raiders news: cornerback Rasul Douglas among the cups

The Las Vegas Raiders jumped into Tuesday’s squad with a few moves, including taking out veteran corner Rasul Douglas.

Douglas was signed as a free agent this offseason and was expected to be part of the squad when signed. But the Raiders continued to charge at position during the offseason. In addition, Douglas did not perform very well in the preseason.

The Raiders also knocked punter Corliss Waitman and goaltender Parker Ehinger off the list. They brought back tackle Devery Hamilton. Thus, Las Vegas must reduce three more players by Tuesday’s deadline to reduce the roster to 80. The initial roster of 53 players will be established on August 31.

Hamilton signed with the Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent after playing for both Stanford and Duke. He was recently injured, but is now in good health.

ESPN reported that the Raiders are working on veteran linebacker Mark Barron,

Barron, 31, last played in the NFL in 2019. He was the 7th overall pick in the 2012 Alabama Draft.

It’s no shock the Raiders are exploring linebackers. Nicholas Morrow could be out for a few weeks with a foot injury he sustained last week in a scrum against the Rams. Veteran linebackers Nick Kwiatkoski and Darron Lee are battling injuries and young linebacker Javin White suffered a knee injury on Saturday night in a preseason win over the Rams. It’s unclear how serious White’s injury is, but he was taken off the field and Raiders coach Jon Gruden said the team were concerned about the injury after the game.
