Derek carr isn’t the only Raiders quarterback to garner commercial interest. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports (via Twitter) that teams have a “legitimate and real” business interest in safeguarding Marcus Mariota.

Mariota joined the Raiders last offseason on a two-year, $ 17.6 million contract. He had an IR stint in September and October, and he didn’t come off the bench until the Raiders lost in Week 15 to the Chargers. Mariota completed 17 of his 28 passing attempts for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception in this game, and he added another score and 88 rushing yards. Rapoport says this singular performance caught the attention of other teams, with some organizations believing Mariota could have a similar career path to that Ryan tannehill (which, of course, resurrected her career after replacing Mariota in Tennessee).
Mariota has shown some promising glimpses over his five seasons in Tennessee, but he’s clearly disappointed given his second-choice ancestry. The quarterback has gone 18-16 in his last three seasons with the Titans, but he’s also only had 31 touchdowns against 25 interceptions.
We learned earlier this week that the teams had been educating themselves on Carr, and reports indicated the Raiders were ready to listen to their starting QB’s offers. Rapoport says while the Raiders wouldn’t hang up the phone at any team, they’re not eager to leave the 29-year-old, and a deal for Carr would be “incredibly expensive.”
