Brightline's transition to Virgin Trains USA took a decisive step yesterday with the unveiling of Virgin MiamiCentral, the new train station in downtown Miami.
Virgin Group founder Richard Branson joined Patrick Goddard, president of Virgin Trains USA, and Esteban Bovo Jr., president of the South Florida Transportation Authority, and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who 39, occasion of a ceremony. Virgin MiamiCentral will serve as a "hub for transportation, business, dining and entertainment" in downtown Miami, officials of Virgin Trains USA said in a press release.
The destination will serve to connect passengers with Metrorail, Metromover, Brightline and soon Tri-Rail trains.
In November 2018, Brightline announced the formation of a strategic partnership and a licensing agreement with the Virgin Group.
"Virgin MiamiCentral is the only destination that connects Miami-Dade County through its various public transit systems and, thanks to the combination of Brightline and Tri-Rail, connects the entire Southeast region." said Mr. Goddard. "Mobility continues to be essential to the growth of our region and our people – and we are responding to demand."
The Brightline express intercity service will be progressively renamed Virgin Trains USA, with Virgin MiamiCentral as the first stop. At present, the former Brightline rail service connects Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, and future connections are planned between Orlando and Tampa.
"Virgin has a long tradition of evolving industries for the better and inspiring sustainable loyalty through an exceptional customer experience," Branson said during the ceremony. "Today marks the first step of this Virgin Trains USA trip when we unveiled the beautiful Virgin Miami Central Station. I am very pleased to see the transformation of our service and projects for the next phase of the project in Orlando. "
Virgin Trains USA also plans to operate an express train service between Las Vegas and Southern California.
